In Washington state, Interstate 90 has caused harm to the local wildlife and limited their resources. Interstate Highways and local road networks are critical to society, however they are detrimental to the local wildlife population. It leads to fragmentation and isolation, causing a barrier between resources that were once accessible before the construction of the Interstate. Another harmful effect is the increase in wildlife-vehicle collisions.
In order to help mediate these problems we are designing and fabricating a green bridge. This will allow animals to cross the interstate safely as well as pedestrians and maintenance park vehicles. Our bridge will be made out of steel and will be built according to the specifications of the AISC Steel Bridge Competition Rules.
