Meet the Team
We are the Steel Bridge Team of 2022
Michelle is a senior Civil Engineering student at The College of New Jersey. As the team leader of the 2022 Steel Bridge Competition she will be responsible for scheduling the meetings and in charge of the fundraising along with other responsibilities. She will be helping design the members of the bridge. Michelle has previously interned at KSI Professional Engineers which gave her the opportunity to work with structural engineers. Michelle is a member of The Civil Engineering Honor Society, Chi Epsilon among other professional societies. After graduating college Michelle plans to have a career in Structural Engineering.

Matthew is a senior Civil Engineering student at The College of New Jersey. Matthew's role on the 2022 TCNJ Steel Bridge Team will be as the Support Design Task Lead as well as assisting in the fabrication of the bridge. Matthew has previously interned at Shamrock Construction Group INC. as an Construction Management Intern. During said internship, he gained both field experience as well as LEED and OSHA training. Matthew has great time management and planning skills that he gained through his work as Vice President of Programming and Service Chair in his fraternities, Theta Tau and Beta Theta Pi, respectively. Upon graduation, Matthew hopes to continue down the path of construction management and to some day become a project manager in the residential sector.

Alec is a senior Civil Engineering student at the College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Alec’s role on the AISC as the Quality Control Lead is to ensure that the designs and construction of the bridge meet the constraints of the competition’s guidelines. He will also be assisting Matt Alves in both fabrication and design of supports. He will also be responsible for drafting his own design for the bridge. Alec serves as the President of Chi Epsilon, the Civil Engineering Honor Society at TCNJ. He worked as an intern at CME Associates. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in either Structural or Water Resources Engineering.

Elizabeth is a Civil Engineering student at The College of New Jersey. As a CAD lead on the 2022 Steel Bridge Team, Elizabeth will be responsible for designing and constructing the members, along with the design of the connections. Elizabeth has worked at United E&C, INC. for the past 5 years as a Structural Technician working alongside structural engineers creating steel framing plans and foundation plans for different equipment buildings. She will be using her work experience to create the drawings needed for the bridge. Elizabeth is also a recent member of The Civil Engineering Honor Society, Chi Epsilon. After graduation, Elizabeth plans to work as a Structural Engineer.

Jake is a Civil Engineering student in his senior year at The College of New Jersey. Jake has a role of Connection Design Lead on the 2022 TCNJ Steel Bridge Team. He will use visual analysis as a design aid in developing the best bridge model to meet the requirements of the competition. Jake will be assisting in both the design and fabrication of the connections that best fit the competition constraints. He is the Community Outreach Chair of The College of New Jersey’s ASCE Chapter. Over the past three summers, Jake was an intern at Whitestone Associates Inc. gaining field experience working with foundations, concrete, and compaction. After graduation, Jake plans to pursue a career in Geotechnical Engineering, and build off his knowledge and experience he has gained in both school and the field.
